For ios instal AlDente Pro2/14/2024 Update: As seen in the articles below, It appears that iOS has multiple charge management features: “kiosk” charge management and optimized charge management. I wonder if the same feature is present in macOS Big Sur’s implementation. Or you can install AlDente, an app that does it for you, saving you 95% of the time, and 80% of the convenience sacrifice (considering you know your way around MacOS's settings on a terminal).Īpple has this feature integrated as a part of iOS charge management - a kiosk mode for devices connected to power 24/7. If you want to a battery that lasts twice as long, you can manually change the settings of Apple's management system on your terminal, effectively trading all convenience and a lot of time and learning for a longer lasting battery, the environment, and your wallet. Instead of calling it bullshit, what you probably meant to say is this:Īpple chooses convenience and accommodates your ignorance in a nice and balanced way that doesn't kill your battery in 3 years. The battery management itself is done with Apple's own software, just like on your own mac.Īnd lastly, Apple factors in the fact that 95% of its users are too stupid uninformed to understand how to maximize life of a LiPo (which includes you if you still believe your 100% charge doesn't degrade yours). AlDente interfaces with Apple's own battery management API to set your values in your mac's SMC. Again, do your research before you say something like that. Thirdly, you're NOT putting anything in the hands of any 3rd party battery software. Secondly, no predictive software can be smart enough to know to a baseline level of certainty what you are going to do with your computer the coming 24 hours, which is exactly why, Apple's management has set their threshold to 80% (instead of the generally recommended 20-60% range) to prevent people from mistaking their management feature for bad battery life, or ending up with a dead macbook on an airplane or long train ride that Apple couldn't have predicted If you think that's adequate battery management, you clearly don't know what you're talking about. (If I'm incorrect, they changed it recently, and I'd love to see a source). ^^įirst of all, even with Apple's management on, if you keep it plugged all the time, Apple still puts 100% charge in your battery.
